I first met this family over five years ago! At the time, their firstborn was just turning one and we met for a session at Montrose Harbor for an awesome session as a family of three. When Tina’s email arrived asking if I was still doing family sessions earlier this year, I couldn’t respond quickly enough. This family is so loving, kind, and fun – just as I remember them. And if you are wondering – YES, I definitely still love photographing families!
For anyone who has been photographed by me (brides especially) – you know I tend to shed a tear or two. I feel all the feels when I’m photographing love. A father daughter dance where you squeeze extra tight, a groom seeing his bride for the first time, a parent making their baby belly laugh… I can’t tell you what a blessing it is to witness these kind of moments.
And this week when I was working on this family session – there came the tears yet again (I know, I know – I need to get a handle on myself!) It was the moment that I came across a closeup of their oldest son. And his eyes – they are just the same as I remember them five years ago. And it made me think… time seems to be a complete blur these days. My three girls are growing far too fast. I’m lucky if I know what day it is. But through it all – is joy. It’s always joy that endures time. These parents looked at their six year old son the exact same way they did when he was just a baby. And now – the same way they also look at his younger brother. Joy is ageless. It’s the fuel that carries us through these fleeting years.
Can you guess what today’s word of the day is? Choose joy.
